The deal we went down for is the off season deal, however one of my family members is a member so it was cheaper than normal.

$30- full breakfast buffet, round of golf, lunch (bar food) and 2 drinks

The courses there are beautiful no matter which one you play.

      Well worth it!

Spent a guys golf weekend at the Legends Resort and had an absolute blast.

The 3 bedroom golf villa we had was great, with plenty of room and right next to the hot tub to soak out all of those swings from the day.

It was also within easy walking distance to the Ailsa Pub which was a great little pub with really good food. We had to drive to get to the clubhouse for breakfast and the driving range but we would definitely take the hot tub and pub over being closer to the clubhouse.

We played 5 courses over 4 days, Oyster Bay, Heritage, Moorland, Heathland and the TPC Myrtle Beach. I listed them in order of how enjoyable they were to play. We ended up paying extra for the TPC and wished we hadn't as it was poorly maintained. We would've been better off skipping the TPC and staying on property and playing Parkland instead.

Legends is definitely a good place to schedule a Myrtle Beach golf vacation through.

I do chair massage at several golf courses in Myrtle Beach and Legends by far has the best staff and clubhouse. In addition, the courses are beautiful.

I stayed at the Legends Resort for a guys golf outing a coupel of weeks ago. The three courses (Heathland, Mooreland & Parkland) on the resort are top notch. The staff is friendly and professional. The condo we stayed in was really nice. It was basically on one of the courses, so getting around was very easy. We were also able to walk over to the range from our condo and hit free balls. The food in the clubhouse & in the Ailsa Pub was very good. I would reccommend this place to anyone looking for a good priced all inclusive golf package.

A loaf of bread, a jug of wine and thou, wrote Omar Khayam.

      The modern day equivalent is:

A bunch of guys, a pile of beers and a golf course. Or three.

I want to make this review a homage to the guys' getaway, but let me get some of the specifics out of the way first:

      1. Legends has three amazing golf courses, one of which ( Moorland) is #47 in toughest public courses in the country. Each golf course is beautiful , challenging and distinct.

      2. The condos are super - basic and unadorned in a Post apartments kind of way - get your group to go for a downstairs one as you will then have the excellent outdoor back patio.

      3. The Ailsa pub and the breakfast / lunch place are tremendous.

There's now 12 in our golf crew, some of the guys have been coming here for 10 years. This year the place was pretty dead - you can see the recession is  taking its toll - so it was really easy to get tee times in the am pm and a table in the bar in the evening.

My favorite hole is the amphitheater style # 18 on Moorland - a great finishing hole for the groups, finish your round, climb to the top of the hill with your beers and your cigars and watch your buddies come in and see whose team has won and who will be paying for dinner.

Then we do a putting contest to see who will be Cabana Boy for the evening .  The sight of 12 balls marching across a green is a beauty to behold - only bettered by the fact that your ball is not furthest from the hole and thus you do not have to spend the night grabbing beers and mixing drinks and making snacks for a rowdy bunch of ne'er do wells.

Only 51 weeks until next year's trip !

    • Organic Weed Control If you have a problem with weeds but you want to live a more natural or eco-friendly life, you may be hard pressed to know what weed-killers will work for you. Maybe you have pets or small children and you don't  want to risk exposing them to harmful chemicals. Natural weed-killers are a great option for you.

I have four children and a toy breed dog and I know how important it is to keep chemicals away from my family. In my search for the best natural weed-killer for us, I have tried several options. Here is a review of some that you might want to try yourself.

Here are some natural weed-killers to try:

      1. WorryFree Organic Grass and Weed Killer- The active ingredient is d-limonene, which is the citrus oil found in the rind of oranges. It's safe enough to use around pets and it has a citrus scent instead of a chemical smell. A 32-ounce bottle of concentrate sells for $6.95 and makes over a gallon of spray when mixed with water.

      2. BurnOut Weed & Grass Killer- This is a natural herbicide made with citric acid, vinegar and clove oil. It's strong enough to kill weeds in less than eight hours but safe enough to use around shrubbery and plants. A 2.5-gallon concentrate cost $7.95 and makes 10 gallons.

      3. Agralawn Crabgrass Killer- The active ingredient in this organic weed killer is 0.95 percent cinnamon bark. It's used to spot-treat crabgrass and similar tough weeds but gentle enough to use around pets and people. A 2-pound bottle cost $19.95.

      4. Vinegar- This is a common household product that's popular because it's safe to use and very effective. The ascetic acid in vinegar is what kills the weeds naturally when poured directly on the weeds. However, it may take two or three applications for tough weeds and it's best used on hot sunny days.

  • Golf Package at Legends

Parkland at Legends Golf and Resort in Myrtle Beach:
    Ian GuerinBy Ian Guerin,
    Contributor

    MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. --

Like most who set foot on Parkland, his rounds were part of a package deal, significantly discounting the cost for Cahill and his wife, Agnes. But it wasn't the cost or the scenic overview of the Scottish-style castle clubhouse that got to him.

"I think its condition," Gerald Cahill said. "The course is in great condition."

Despite rains that had recently flooded the Myrtle Beach area in a matter of days, it was evident that the staff at Legends put plenty of effort into keeping its Parkland course in top condition. Between constant work on the fairways and sand traps, the visual appeal of the golf course continues to match its playing appeal.

Listening to Head Professional Matt Biddington, it sounds like Legends achieved its goal once again.

"You have to have an excellent product," Biddington said. "I can safely say we've been one of the top five conditioned courses in the area. Once March came around and the weather started turning, we've had zero complaints on the course at all."

In fact, it's been the exact opposite. The rants and raves over the condition of Parkland have swamped the golf course with players from around North America.

The Cahills played it multiple times on a recent trip from their home outside of St. John's in Newfoundland, Canada. They weren't alone.

Thanks to Legends' partnership with 50 or more outside vendors, the resort gets the majority of its traffic from package deals, including the popular Five for Four, which combines rounds at onsite courses the Heathland, theMoorland and Parkland and sister courses Oyster Bay in Sunset Beach, N.C., and the Heritage Club in Pawleys Island, S.C. So while a typical round at Parkland would cost $65 to $135, depending on the season, almost no one pays that standard rack rate. Biddington has no problem referring to some of those packages as the best deal in Myrtle Beach.

Parkland at Legends Golf and Resort: The golf course

Once the golfers arrive, they find a somewhat difficult 18 holes. The starter's pre-round speech often includes a description of the golf course as "every bit of 6,500 yards" from the white tees.

"It played a little longer than the other courses," Gerald Cahill said, comparing it to the other four courses in the Legends network. "That's the first time anyone ever gave us that type of advice."

The back tees at Parkland play a hair more than 7,100 yards, while the ladies' set sit just shy of 5,400. Regardless, any Parkland golfer must deal with hazards galore, exemplified by No. 7. All seven sand traps -- including two on the right of the fairway and five on the left -– enter play with the slightest off-center shot. And for the most part, these aren't your run-of-the-mill bunkers.

"They were like British Open bunkers," Agnes Cahill said. "You're buried in them. They have the big lips. You can't go in them."

A mean slice off the tee box on No. 7 puts into play a water hazard that stretches nearly three-quarters of the length of the hole. And that's just the sixth-hardest hole on the golf course.

The challenge is another part of its appeal. The 441-yard, par-4 14th rates as the toughest Parkland has to offer. But after the previous 13, it blends in as simply another trial.

Facilities and golf instruction at Legends

When stacking up against the numerous golf courses on the Grand Strand, the Legends site offers one of the better all-around venues to spice up the golf experience.

Included in the list of perks is a 30-plus acre driving range, an 1 1/4-acre putting green, a separate building to house the Classic Swing Golf School, the clubhouse and pro shop, the aforementioned Scottish-style castle -- complete with a better-than-average pub with plenty of food and drink specials year-round.

"In the spring, there's a lot of days when it's tough to get a spot over there," Biddington said of the pub. "It's been a great change with (the economy) being down. It's great to have people coming through the doors."

The driving range and the putting green are lit well into the evening, another benefit for golfers.

The Parkland course at Legends Golf and Resort: The verdict

It appears the secret on Parkland is out: Find a package deal that matches it and a couple other Legends golf courses, and take advantage of the savings.

Golfers of all skill levels, though, face a challenge many other golf courses don't offer: Of the 18 holes at Parkland, 12 include some form of water hazard. All 18 feature at least two in-play sand traps.

It adds to the enjoyment -- or frustration, if you're not ready -– of a very affordable golf course.

  • 6 Tips To Sell Your Home Faster

In a declining real estate market where supply outstrips demand, a person can generally sell a house faster by lowering the price. But there are other ways to enhance a home's attractiveness besides lowering the asking price. If you're looking to sell your home in a cooling real estate market, read on for some tips on how to generate interest and get the best price possible. Differentiate From the Neighbors In order to attract attention and to make your home more memorable, consider custom designs or additions, such as landscaping, high grade windows or a new roof. This can help improve the home's aesthetics, while potentially adding value to the home. Any improvements should be practical and use colors and designs that will appeal to the widest audience. In addition, they should compliment the home and its other amenities, such as building a deck or patio adjacent to an outdoor swimming pool. However, while it can pay to spice up your home, don't over-improve it. According to a 2006 article in Realtor Magazine, some renovations, such as adding a bathroom or a sun room, might not always pay. The data suggests that the nationwide average amount recouped for a bathroom addition is about 75%. For a sun room, it's even less. If you're going to invest in renovations, do your research and be sure to put your money into the things that are likely to get you the best return. In addition, if you have added any custom features that you think buyers will be interested in, make sure they are included in the home's listing information. More than ever, in a down market you should take every small edge you can get. Clean the Clutter It is imperative to remove all clutter from the home before showing it to potential buyers because buyers need to be able to picture themselves in the space. This might include removing some furniture to make rooms look bigger, and putting away family photographs and personal items. You may even want to hire a stager to help you make better use of the space. Staging costs can range from a couple hundred dollars for a basic consultation to several thousand dollars, particularly if you rent modern, neutral furniture for showing your home. Many people feel that stagers can make a home more salable, so hiring one deserves some consideration. Sweeten the Deal Another way to make the home and deal more attractive to buyers is to offer things or terms that might sweeten the pot. For example, sellers that offer the buyer a couple of thousand dollars credit toward closing costs, or offer to pay closing costs entirely will in some cases receive more attention from house hunters looking at similar homes. In a down market, buyers are looking for a deal, so do your best to make them feel they're getting one. Another tip is to offer a transferable home warranty, which can cost $300 to $400 for a one-year policy and will cover appliances, such as air conditioners and refrigerators, that fail. Depending on the policy, other appliances and house gadgets may be covered as well. A potential buyer may feel more at ease knowing that he or she will be covered against such problems, which could make your home more attractive than a competing home. Finally, it's important to note that some buyers are motivated by the option to close in a short amount of time. If it is possible for you to close on the home within 30 to 60 days, this may set your deal apart and get you a contract. Improve Curb Appeal Sellers often overlook the importance of their home's curb appeal. The first thing a buyer sees is a home's external appearance and the way it fits into the surrounding neighborhood. Try to make certain that the exterior has a fresh coat of paint, and that the bushes and lawn are well manicured. In real estate, appearances mean a lot. What better way to set your home apart than to make it attractive at first glance? Get Your Home in "Move In" Condition Aesthetics are important, but it's also important that doors, appliances and electrical and plumbing fixtures be in compliance with current building codes and in working order. Again, the idea is to have the home in move in condition and to give potential buyers the impression that they will be able to move right in and start enjoying their new home, rather than spending time and money fixing it up. Pricing It Right Regardless of how well you renovate and stage your home, it is still important to price the home appropriately. Consult a local real estate agent, read the newspapers and go to online real estate sites to see what comparable homes are going for in your area. It's not always imperative to be the lowest priced home on the block, particularly when aesthetic and other significant improvements have been made. However, it is important that the listing price is not out of line with other comparable homes in the market. Try to put yourself in the buyer's shoes and then determine what a fair price might be. Have friends, neighbors and real estate professionals tour the home and weigh in as well. The Bottom Line Selling a home in a down market requires a little extra work. Do everything you can to get the home in excellent shape and be prepared to make some small concessions at closing. These tips, coupled with an attractive price, will increase the odds of getting your home sold.
